Identify your booking arrangement
For a single ticket or through-booked itinerary, contact the operating carrier or its transfer desk promptly and ask about rerouting to the final destination. The airline may be able to protect the onward journey.
If flights are on separate tickets, the missed onward flight may be treated differently. Contact the onward airline before its departure if possible, and check your fare’s change conditions.
Check baggage and entry requirements
Ask whether checked baggage was tagged to the final destination. When changing routes or airports, you may need to reclaim and recheck bags.
An unexpected overnight stay or an alternative international transfer may change visa and entry requirements. Verify them with official government sources.
Keep proof of the original disruption
Save notifications, boarding cards, arrival information and receipts. Where passenger-rights rules apply, the delay at the final ticketed destination can be a key factor.
Document the airline’s proposed alternative before committing to a separate replacement booking.
Policies and laws can change. Confirm urgent or booking-specific questions using the airline or regulator's official source.
